A Letter to Rush

Dear Rush,

Is it stretch to say that most Americans responded to the news from India with a yawn? Maybe.  But if it is a stretch, it is not a big one. Americans demonstrated their apathy towards terrorism three weeks ago.
In the same way Americans were drawn into accepting the messiahship of Obama, they were conditioned to believe that terrorism must be accepted as a way of life. A horrible reality of the contemporary world. With little to be done other than trying to be more likable to the enemy.
As it is, my ten year old is very much under the impression that celebrating Ramadan, an Islamic holiday that occurs in September, is properly celebrated in December along with Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa and, of course, Festivus.
Yet, Rush, you insist we must remain optimistic.  After all, optimism is one of the cornerstones of conservatism.  It, perhaps more than anything else, is what separates us from liberal robotic behavior.
We believe in the essential goodness and potential, not just of Americans, but of the human race.  The goodness that recognizes evil and the potential to fight that evil.  The goodness to love the family and the potential to protect that family.  The goodness to understand the potential for all to love.
        Rather than succumb to death.
But everywhere we look, Rush, death seems to be overtaking goodness.  And the future will be lead by a man who believes only in the failure of man.
Are you sure, Rush, that a little pessimism is not in order?

Best,

S.
